Boardsmill 1-09 St. Brigid’s 2-15
Venue: Boardsmill
Boardsmill fell to a second league defeat of their 2022 football league campaign on breezy St. Patrick’s Day morning. Playing against a gale force wind in the first half it was the Ballinacree men who started brightest with a goal straight from the throw in. The visitors tagged a point from the resulting kickout before Stevie Gibbons registered the men in royal blue’s first point after good work from Niall Bagnall. Both sides exchanged points before St. Brigid’s grabbed their second goal of the game, as their corner forward finished a rebound from the crossbar to the net. The men in sky blue added four more first half points to Boardsmill’s one from the foot of James Ashe.

Being aided by a stiff breeze, the ‘Mill men squandered a glorious chance of a score directly from the throw in as Ashe hit the post with a venomous shot, from the breaking ball Brigid’s patiently worked the ball up the field to score a point. This was a sucker punch to Boardsmill as the North Meath men registered the next three scores to extend their lead to fourteen points. Gibbons pointed before a breaking ball was finished to the net by Ashe to give Boardsmill some renewed life. Things could have got better for the men in royal blue as the hardworking Cathal Wall was unlucky not to see his goal bound shot nestling in the net, the goalkeeper was lucky that the crossbar was there to save him. Wall had to settle for the point and from the resulting kickout St. Brigid’s raced down to tag over another point. Both sides swapped scores throughout the remainder of the game as the visitors were to leave Pairc Chill Mhuire the happier.
